Well SHIT, Let's Just Turn 'Em All Loose

My quaint and amusing local paper is crowing about a significant set-back in the War to Rid The Earth of Goat-Screwing Heathens:

Supreme Court Blocks Bush, Gitmo War Trials

Fuck me to tears. You mean some Yemeni, Bin Laden's driver and bodyguard, has standing to sue in the US Supreme Court?? And win??

TVZMM is on it too, and has some good links.

I'm disgusted. What the hell is wrong with this country?

A Big Fat Negative to UN Gun Control

Thank God we have some patriots at the UN. Via TVZMM comes this very welcome piece of news.

"A remarkable thing happened at the United Nations yesterday. We, the United States, told the world “no”. The messenger was Robert Joseph, the Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security. Speaking before the dozens of nations that have gathered for the review conference on Small Arms and Light Weapons, Joseph told the world in no uncertain terms where the United States stood.

"“The U.S. Constitution guarantees the rights of our citizens to keep and bear arms, and there will be no infringement of those rights,” he proclaimed to the dignitaries and functionaries. “The United States will not agree to any provisions restricting civilian possession, use or legal trade of firearms inconsistent with our laws and practices.”"

The most brilliant words in it are, "The U.S. Constitution guarantees the rights of our citizens to keep and bear arms;" not "grants," "gives," or "extends." As it does also the rights to free speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of the press.

We need more diplomats like Mr Joseph and Mr. Bolton. Let's make sure we elect the men who will appoint them.

Amen. And just in time for the 4th of July.

Tactical Convoy Supplies

My good friend and fellow Marine, Major Joe Winslow, has come up with a great idea, based on his time in Iraq. He is making and selling signs for tactical convoys, that tell the locals to keep away and be careful. Here's one of them:

Simple, brilliant. If you're interested, go visit Joe's site. He has them ready to go in several languages and sizes. Anything he does is quality work.

Yeah, But That's What Bears Do

I saw this article, Fed-Up Germany Kills Its Only Wild Bear, in my quaint and amusing local paper today.

"Bavarian authorities said they regretted the outcome but blamed Bruno [das bear] for forcing their hand. They said the bear had failed to show enough fear or respect for humans and was repeatedly wandering into Alpine villages in search of food."

Yeah, but that's what bears do.

As Jeff Cooper says, bears are a magnificent adornment to the wilderness and should be welcomed. However, they're not cute and cuddly little toys. They roam around in search of food, and they're big enough to get what they want.

Yet more evidence that old Europe has lost the bubble.

Airborne!

Spent the weekend down in Fayetteville, NC, attending the change-of-command for a great friend and Brother Rat (will post more on that shortly).

We took his kids to the Airborne and Special Operations Museum in downtown Fayette-nam. (I'll be damned but that place has a nice downtown.) That museum is worth a visit by every American who has even the faintest interest in the amazing and still ongoing history of the Army's airborne and spec ops warriors.

And get this-- it's right across the street from the Amtrak station. NO EXCUSE NOT TO GO. Do it now.
